Wandering through the busy suburb of Latina, close to landmark Plaza Mayor, are some true Spanish retail shops. No souvenirs, or cheap trinkets but shops for the locals. I couldn't resist taking a photo of this typical sweet shop. It proudly and neatly displays one of its popular items: liquorice. In the photo we see Belgian liquorice. The shop also had a Finnish variety. Wonder how different tasting the two are. Better get back and buy some!

Design has always been an important part of Spain's culture, as far back as 4,000 years or so! I was very fortunate to visit Madrid's Museo Arqueológico yesterday. Three floors of wonderful finds that help explain Spain's rich past. From the city I lived in, Almeria, some wonderful Neolithic period jewellery.
Visiting this lovely Cantabian city which was once a major holiday destination for Spanish royalty. Window shopping is always a fun pastime and I always enjoy seeing how food and drink is displayed. Here a busy display of local or "crianza" wines.
Discovered this tiny shop along one of the many boutiques shop streets in trendy Chueca, a suburb close to central Madrid. Charming owner who has acquired a very eclectic and varied mix of items for any age. Worth a visit! Check out the website for online purchases as well.
I am back in Spain and had to pay a visit to this wonderful company, Tierra, who have shops in Toyko and New York. The Spanish store in Madrid is a darling little place steps away from Plaza Mayor. Berta was my salesperson when I went in and she happily modelled some fun things! Great customer service and fun items!
I took this photo one year ago. A beautiful part of Scotland. A very special visit with daughter Georgia. Great memories!
Along with Patricia Arquette's passionate acceptance speech on equal pay for women, we heard another heartfelt speech on immigration reform and political reform for Mexican people. Congratulations for winning tonight and showing your passion and support for human dignity. The Mexican director, producer, screenwriter and composer dedicated his best picture win for “Birdman” to his fellow Mexicans, and called on his countrymen to “find and build a government that we deserve.”
My lovely frangipani produced two large seed pods over winter and spring. A rare event apparently. I rescued the seeds quickly after the pod burst open without warning one day. Now it is mid summer and a number of the delicate seeds are starting to take off1 It has been a slow process but very rewarding. There is pleasure and satisfaction in starting a plant or tree from seed! Here are photos showing progress: |
